Dr. Weiss is Professor of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at Arizona State University. He has taught statistics for 24 years, is a statistical consultant to the U.S. Air Force, and is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports (JQAS). Dr. Weiss has published more than 400 articles and book chapters in the area of statistics and probability. He holds a Ph.D. in statistics from UCLA and a B.A. in statistics and mathematics from Purdue University. He is a Fellow of the International Statistical Institute and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. A great number of statistical problems and solutions are included in the text. The problems in the text are often taken directly from real-world applications, making the book particularly relevant for practicing statisticians.
